Back Book Cover Image #2

  • What is your name and where do you call home?  Lorene Stunson Hill.  I live in Lake Helen, Florida.

  • Do you have a pen name? No, but considered using Amethyst (My birthstone).

  • What is the name of your most recent book and if you had to sum it up in 20 or fewer words, what would you say?  To Dance with Ugly People – The good is sensitively written. The bad is the reality of life.  The ugly we hope will never happen.

  • Is the above book part of a series?  The first of a series

  • What or who inspired you to start writing? Maya Angelou was my inspiration to write and so was Life.  I coped very often with bad things by imaging the situation on a written page.  And how long have you been writing?  I am 64 and have been writing since I was 14.  It took me 50 years to be brave enough to release my first book.

  • How did you come up with the cover? Who designed the cover of your book(s)?  A fellow Indie Author who is a friend found that cover for me.  He is launching his own Indie business called Lock Publishing.

Senior African American couple holding hands

  • Did you listen to any particular songs while writing your book(s)? No

  • How did you come up with the title for your book(s)?  I met an older and wise woman 30 years ago whose clever way of telling me to live right and be careful was, “Don’t Dance with Ugly People.”  My title “To Dance with Ugly People,” reflects that my protagonist did not follow her advise.

  • Do you prefer e-books, paperbacks, hard-covers or audio-books?  Hard Covers and Paperbacks

  • Are you a self-published/Indie author?  Yes

  • If you’re a self-published/Indie author what made you go that route instead of the traditional publishing route?  I couldn’t seem to write a Query letter that draws an Agents attention

  • Have you ever read a book more than once?  Yes And if so what was it? “The Color Purple”

  • What is your opinion of novellas?  Go for it!  Many famous novellas exist.  Look at “The Bridges of Madison County” Wish I wrote it!

  • Have you ever read a book just based on its cover? No

  • What is your favorite film based on a book?  Back to “The Color Purple”

  • What is your favorite book genre at the moment?  Suspense

  • What books have made it onto your wish list recently? I don’t currently have a wish list because I am so busy promoting my book

  • What book are you reading at the moment? “A Day Late and A Dollar Short” And in what format?   As a   Paperback

  • If you could invite any four (4) celebrities (alive or dead) to your dinner party, who would you invite and why?  1. Maya Angelou 2. Barack Obama 3. Michelle Obama 4. Oprah Winfrey – I would want to pluck as much “Wisdom” from their brains as I could.  They all are “deep” individuals

  • What’s the best advice that you have been given when it comes to writing?  To stop writing like I am afraid someone would find out something about me.  To write well, I can only write what I know, stop being a coward and go for it.

  • Do you have any hobbies that are not related to reading & writing?  I like to build and decorate dollhouses using kits.

  • Where can your readers follow you?

Author Interview – Ashlee North

Today I would like to thank the beautiful and talented Ashlee North for joining me and sharing some of her experiences as an author living on the sunny coast in Australia.

me

  • What is your name and where do you call home?

My real name is Leeanne Asher-Northey and I live in Surfers Paradise on the Sunny Gold Coast, in Queensland, Australia

  • Do you have a pen name?

Yes, I write under the name Ashlee North – see my books at http://ashleenorthauthor.com/

  • What is the name of your most recent book and if you had to sum it up in 20 or fewer words, what would you say?

My most recent book is called “Kiss Me, Love Me, Kill Me!” and it is just about to be released. It is a Roller Coaster Ride of Excitement; Intrigue, Murder, Suspense, Mystery and Romance; for all ages – teen to adult.

  • Is the above book part of a series?

no

  • What or who inspired you to start writing? And how long have you been writing?

I have always loved writing, reading and creating and public speaking. When I was a teenager I wanted to become a journalist. My writing has turned fiction, and I adore it. I think I’ve been an author forever.

  • How did you come up with the cover of your current book and those of your previous books? Who designed the cover(s) of your book(s)?

My covers are from pictures in my head, which I then find from stock photos and Wendy at SBPRA does a beautiful job of my covers for me… We collaberate and make something wonderful every time.

my books (1)

ANorth5 Book The Chronicling of Ilithia (1) ANorth4 Book

  • Did you listen to any particular songs while writing your book(s)?

I love music. I write songs, I sing… I love it… but I can’t think of any particular ones that influenced my books, sorry.

  • How did you come up with the title for your book(s)?

My titles are reflections of the writing inside the books – something catchy helps – There’s ‘Circling Carousels’ which has good alliteration – “Wake me up so I can Dream” which is intriguing and makes you wonder – “Because of the Secret” which you just have to find out about, because it’s a secret – “The Storm that Brews Within” which sounds a bit creepy and it is. “The Chronicling of Ilithia” is supposed to sound old world and like a saga, because it’s a fantasy book full of action, intrigue and an evil king in a beautiful fairy kingdom. – “Kiss Me, Love Me, Kill Me!” is catchy and shows that there will be a lot of different emotions and something to get your teeth into – it has just about everything in it!

  • Do you have a book trailer? If so where can we watch it?

I have a book trailer for five of my seven books: I’ll list some of them for you…

“Because of the Secret” on youtube – www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXu3cozPbCU

“Wake me up so I can Dream” on youtube – www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVCLlaaOxzA

“Circling Carousels” on youtube – www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwqeX6zurP4

“The Storm that Brews Within” on youtube – www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVgj_WgROs0

  • Do you prefer e-books, paperbacks, hard-covers or audio-books?

I suppose I love e-books and paperbacks the best. E-books are so very popular now and paperbacks are really flexible –  easy to hold and read – and they can have such lovely covers.

  • Are you a self-published/Indie author?

Yes, I use SBPRA – Strategic Books – for my self publishing – I suppose we sort of share the load.

  • If you’re a self-published/Indie author what made you go that route instead of the traditional publishing route?

I would like both actually. I like the freedom of being an Indie Author, but I would still love to be Traditionally Published too! The journey of self-publishing has been wonderful! I’ve learned so much and marketing is awesome and a massive learning curve – Social Media is so huge and fantastic!

  • Have you ever read a book more than once? And if so what was it?

Yes, a few actually, but one comes to mind – The Horse Whisperer by Nicholas Evans

  • What is your opinion of novellas?

I think the idea of sitting and reading a shorter book, full of wonderful storyline, in a shorter time is great. Some of my earlier books were around 35,000 words, so they were shorter, and I applaud novellas, and longer books too.

  • Have you ever read a book just based on its cover?

Yes, in fact I think attractive covers draw people in tremendously. Often a beautiful cover will be the first reason and then the words on the back of the book second. Have a look at my latest. I love it…

  •  What is your favorite film based on a book?

Good question. Sometimes films based on books have different endings and so they can be very different experiences. I liked “The Host” by Stephanie Myer. I think in the short amount of time they were given to portray a long and very detailed book, that they did a pretty good job… I still liked the book better though J

  • What is your favorite book genre at the moment?

Fantasy

  • What books have made it onto your wish list recently? And why?

“The Book Thief “by Markus Zusack and Janet Evanovich’s “Top Secret 21”.  “The Book Thief” I saw as a movie and I wondered at the detail that may be even more wonderful in the book and “Top Secret 21”, because I’ve been reading Janet Evanovich’s books for years and I just have to read each one.

  • What book are you reading at the moment? And in what format?

I’m re-reading a book by Jo-Anne Vandermeulen called “Conquering all Obstacles” in e-book format.

  • If you could invite any four (4) celebrities (alive or dead) to your dinner party, who would you invite and why?

Jon Bon Jovi (because his music and personality are both so brilliant, caring and wonderful), Richard Gere (because I think he is the most handsome man alive – don’t tell my husband), Barry Gibb from The Bee Gees (because he’s the only Bee Gee left and it’s sad that his family are all gone, and because I appreciate the range of his voice) and Hugh Laurie who played Doctor Gregory House on House MD the television series. (because he’s an amazing character actor, an awesome musician, and he is and he is really talented. I would love to get inside his mind, especially as the character Greg House).

  • What’s the best advice that you have been given when it comes to writing?

Be yourself. (this applies to the whole of life, of course) Absolutely, try different genres, but don’t try to write like someone else, or write a certain genre because it’s popular. Writing what you enjoy will always produce better results.

  • Do you have any hobbies that are not related to reading & writing?

I love the beach. We are blessed to live on the ocean front with a gorgeous view, which I couldn’t live without. I also love watching movies and tv series, going for walks and romantic times with my husband.

  • Where can your readers follow you?

The best place is my website http://ashleenorthauthor.com/

photo

  • What is your name and where do you call home?

My name is Doris Jones  and I am originally from Chicago, Illinois but am currently residing in Indianapolis, Indiana.

  • Do you have a pen name?

Yes, it is Samantha Crystal.

  • What is the name of your most recent book and if you had to sum it up in 20 or fewer words, what would you say?

My most recent book is called ” A Long Journey To Home”- it is an inspiring book that encourages the victim/survivor to Speak UP against abuse while educating the public on what the victim/survivor had to endure after the abuse has ended.

  • Is the above book part of a series?

I am planning on making it a series of self-help books that will help to continue and encourage those who have been affected by child abuse, rape and domestic violence. I am using my story and faith to encourage others along the way.

  • What or who inspired you to start writing? And how long have you been writing?

There was A LOT of influences that have caused me to write. My therapist had encouraged me but then there were strong women in my life who influenced me to write. I look up to the Late Dr. Maya Angelou and Oprah-those who were affected by child abuse but were able to succeed as an adult including using there life as a way to encourage others. I have been writing poems ever since I was in High school and continue to write even now as a mom.

  • How did you come up with the cover? Who designed the cover of your book(s)?

I originally was thinking of a long road that leads to home but the company who had helped me had given me the ideas through pictures. But this picture was taken by a photographer a long time ago and I was lucky enough to get permission to use it.

journey

  • Did you listen to any particular songs while writing your book(s)?

I was listening to a mix of songs (alternative to classic rock to country to R&B) from my list on Spotify and old school r&b songs on iheartradio.com. I just love music, it helped me to say what I really wanted to say.

  • How did you come up with the title for your book(s)?

I thought of the title with the help from my aunt-I was thinking of a long journey that my aunt, cousin, & I had to endure. We had been silenced by those who had mistreated us including making sure we were broke & homeless. But with God’s help, we have come a long way by being blessed with a house, a job and each other including those who are really there for us.

  • Do you have a book trailer? If so where can we watch it?

No I do not but wish I had enough money to do a book trailer. Maybe some day.

  • Have you ever read a book more than once? And if so what was it?

No but if I did I would not mind reading again “Pearls of Wisdom” by Patti La Belle. It is a GREAT book, she was giving pearls of wisdom by telling her story and what she had experienced.

  • What is your favorite book genre at the moment?

My favorite book genre is non-fiction poetry and biography because I believe that every person has a story behind their journey.

  • If you could invite any four (4) celebrities (alive or dead) to your dinner party, who would you invite and why?

I would invite Oprah because she is such an inspiration and had survived hardships before succeeding. Dr. Maya Angelou Because she had endure hardships as well and always had words of wisdom, I would love to hear her wise words though poetry or from her opinion. Sandra Bullock because she had gone through difficult times but still looks through comedy to act. Whoopi Goldburg because she has always been funny but not afraid to speak her mind.

  • What’s the best advice that you have been given when it comes to writing?

I have always been told, “Take everything one day at a time. Rome wasn’t built in a day.”

  • Do you have any hobbies that are not related to reading & writing?

My hobbies are listening to music of any kind, watching jeopardy, Steve Harvey show including shows pertaining to music, being a mom (of course), writing, spending time with family & friends.

WHAT IS THE BLOOD ANGEL SERIES ABOUT?

The Blood Angel series is set in a world very much like our own, yet Atlanta isn’t just an ordinary city and Alee Moyer isn’t just an ordinary girl. Having barely survived her childhood, it will take the death of her father for the truth of her bloodline to come out, even if it means losing her life or her identity. Watch as Alee struggles to understand her true destiny as the first surviving Dhampir in history. Surrounded by a new world ,where the horror films she grew up watching have become her reality, the most unlikely characters have become her lifeline. Follow as Alee discovers herself and her purpose.

Camouflaged by the mundane happenings of a high school existence, Alee would never have guessed what was happening below the surface in, “The Underground”. If she thought hunting in the wild and drinking blood was bad, what will she think when she becomes one of the hunted?

Will Alee be able to survive her destiny, or will it prove to be more powerful than she is?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Nina Soden, Author
Nina Soden, Author

I have always been creative, be it art, theatre, film – anything but singing…trust me, you don’t want to hear that! I earned my bachelor’s degree in Theatre and Military Science from Eastern Michigan University where I spent most of my time either on stage, rappelling down buildings, or working one of three jobs. After college I moved to Los Angeles like so many other starry-eyed actors in pursuit of fame and fortune in tinseltown. While there, I worked to pay the bills but my love was always acting. I was able to achieve some level of success, mostly in commercials and independent films, and I consider those experiences as some of the best of my life.

After some major life changes, I self-published my first book entitled PRIVATE WORDS UNSPOKEN, a compilation of self poetry. Since then, my literary interest has grown and I would like to think my storytelling ability has improved. I have done everything from office administration, to business development, to being the Director of a private preschool. I have jumped out of a C130 aircraft, fired a M16 machine gun, and given birth – TWICE! But I always return to my art.

Though I’ll forever be a Michigan girl at heart, I now live in the South where I am married with two wonderful children. If I’m not working on my latest story you can find me lounging with a good book, playing with my kids, or indulging in my unhealthy addiction to Starbucks coffee.

To learn more about me and my books you can check out my website, or follow me on one or all of the various internet/social media sites.

Author Interview – Todd Douglas Keister

I would like to give a warm welcome to Todd Douglas Keister and say thank you for joining me today for this eye opening author interview.

9295619

  • What is your name and where do you call home?

My name is Todd Douglas Keister and I live in Binghamton, upstate New York.

  • Do you have a pen name?

I write as Todd Douglas – easier to pronounce and avoids people pronouncing my last name “Keester”  LOL

  • What is the name of your most recent book and if you had to sum it up in 20 or fewer words, what would you say?

A Republic, if you can keep it; a chronicle of the American Counterrevolution. To educate Americans on the long process that led America to the loss of our liberties, and how our political masters keep us in a state of confusion.

  • Is the above book part of a series?

It is not, although the next book, on American foreign policy in the 20th century, relates to the same concepts; our collective departure from the principles of liberty and federalism as enshrined in the Declaration of Independence and the constitution.

  • What or who inspired you to start writing? And how long have you been writing?

It was just the passion I felt for what was happening to our nation; and the more I learned, the more I realized how ignorant most of us are about our heritage as a country.  Reading the available literature, it was apparent that there was plenty of rants against the current presidential administration, but nothing to explain how we got to this point; where presidents and congressmen of any party have such unlimited power over our lives and fortunes.  I have been writing since 2009, when I began writing columns for Examiner.com and a number of pieces at American Thinker.com

  • How did you come up with the cover? Who designed the cover of your book(s)?

I wanted something that conveyed America in distress and harkened back to a time when we still honored our constitution.  I purchased a photograph of a yellowing American flag and used it as a backdrop for the title.  I created it with PowerPoint, saved it as a .jpeg file, and had my cousin – a graphic design student – convert it into the required .pdf format.

 5866143

  • Did you listen to any particular songs while writing your book(s)?

I generally can’t concentrate well with music, but sometimes I listen to Mozart.

  • How did you come up with the title for your book(s)?

When Benjamin Franklin emerged from the constitution’s signing session, a Mrs. Powell asked him, “Well Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?”  To which Franklin replied, “A republic – if you can keep it.”  Republics historically have not lasted and quickly descended into anarchy.  The counterrevolution subtitle conveys the book’s assertion that America has already been fundamentally changed into a completely different governmental structure and the constitution is essentially a dead letter.

  • Do you have a book trailer? If so where can we watch it?

Yes, there is a trailer on the home page of my website at www.todddouglasonline.com

  • Do you prefer e-books, paperbacks, hard-covers or audio-books?

Personally, I prefer hardcover, but if your self-publishing, soft cover and Kindle are your best options

  • Are you a self-published/Indie author?

Yes, my current book is self-published using CreateSpace.com and is sold through my website and on Amazon.

  • If you’re a self-published/Indie author what made you go that route instead of the traditional publishing route?

I sent my work to more than 100 agents and publishing houses without success and simply got tired of waiting.  Once I discovered CreateSpace, I immediately began work on prepping the book for print.

  • Have you ever read a book more than once? And if so what was it?

I have read Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged three times, and Anthem twice.

  • What is your opinion of novellas?

I think they are an excellent form of reading enjoyment; for relaxation and escape

  • Have you ever read a book just based on its cover?

Not solely on the cover, but it certainly makes a difference on whether or not I pick it up off the shelf to examine it further.

  • What is your favorite film based on a book?

It has to be The Hunt for Red October based on the Tom Clancy Book by the same name.  It’s also one of the only films I’ve ever seen that follows the book plot exactly.

  • What is your favorite book genre at the moment?

Although I love history and write about world affairs, of late I mainly read spiritual and self-help books – trying to undo the damage of two decades in law enforcement.

  • What books have made it onto your wish list recently? And why?

The Catcher in the Rye – a classic I’ve never read; The Law, by Frederic Bastiat; You are not Your Brain, by Jeffrey Schwartz, M.D.

  • What book are you reading at the moment? And in what format?

The 4-Hour Workweek, by Timothy Ferriss.  I listen to it on my iPhone using the Audible ap during my frequent long drives.

  • If you could invite any four (4) celebrities (alive or dead) to your dinner party, who would you invite and why?

I’m not a big fan of celebrities in general, but I’d probably invite Christopher Walken, Adam Sandler, Will Farrell, and Jennifer Lawrence (To hang with my daughters).

  • What’s the best advice that you have been given when it comes to writing?

I received precious little advice with regard to writing; if anyone out there has some, I’m all ears…

  • Do you have any hobbies that are not related to reading & writing?

I enjoy hiking, and am in the process of trying to hike all 46 High Peaks of the Adirondacks with my daughter before 2020.  I also kayak, run obstacle/mud races, and ride motorcycles.
