Welcome, Vicki Batman, I’m so glad to have you as a guest on my blog today. I have to say right off the top… I LOVE your last name.
- What is your name and where do you call home? I’m really Vicki Batman and I live in a large town.
That’s all, just a large town? No elaboration… OK. I guess I can understand the need for privacy.
- Do you have a pen name? No, I mean, really, Batman is a pretty good name all by itself.
I couldn’t agree more. It must have been cool growing up with a name like that. 🙂
- What is the name of your most recent book and if you had to sum it up in 20 or fewer words, what would you say? Season of Surprises holiday stories full of wishes and kisses from eight Amazon best-selling authors.
- What other authors were involved in writing Season of Surprises? It was myself, Merry Holly, Cara Marsi, Gerri Brousseau, Roberta Lerman, Madison West, Jane Gale, Kristin Drew
- Is Season of Surprises part of a series? Season of Magic preceded Season of Surprises.
- Can you tell us a little about each story in Season of Surprises?
Story Blurbs:
“Noelle’s Surprise” by Merry Holly:
A couple living on a tropical island has a secret that might tear them apart.
“Her Frog Prince Holiday” by Cara Marsi:
Can a woman who thought she wanted a frog learn to love a prince?
“A Day for Destiny” by Jane Gale:
A court summons and arrival of a sexy, mysterious man throws Destiny’s mundane life into chaos. Not knowing who to trust, she could lose everything, including her heart.
“Turkish Delight” by Madison West:
An agoraphobic young woman embarks on a trip to Istanbul, Turkey in search of a rare tapestry, but instead finds love and herself.
“Providence” by Bobbi Lerman:
An accident sends 21st century fugitive Amy Beale back in time into the arms of a beguiling artist for one last chance to clear her name and find her fate in a love that transcends time and space.
“Enticed by a Laird” by Gerri Brousseau:
A Scottish Laird captured the heart of a titled Englishwoman from the first moment she laid eyes on him, but would his clan and her family ever approve of their forbidden love?
“Holiday on the Home Front” by Kristin Drew:
In 1944, an itinerant waitress falls for a deploying soldier, and puts down roots in his hometown with the hope doing so will bring him home safely from war.
“Holiday Handbag Extravaganza” by Vicki Batman:
Christmas Countdown is on! Hunk-a-licious customer, Jack Treadaway, pesters boutique owner, Callie Woods, to locate a vintage handbag for his mother. Too bad the wedge between them is his sister, the meanest girl in town. (see excerpt later in post)
- What or who inspired you to start writing? And how long have you been writing? I’ve been writing for twelve years thanks to a friend who wanted to play car games and gave me the prompt I couldn’t do. A few days later, I had written eight chapters. She said to keep going. So I did.
- How did you come up with the cover? Who designed the cover of your book(s)? One author recommended her cover artist and we voted on which we liked. Season of Surprises is my favorite.
- Did you listen to any particular songs while writing your book(s)? I love classical guitar. Words mess with my head.
- Do you prefer e-books, paperbacks, hardcovers or audio-books? I like all books. E books are great for traveling and audio books are great when working out on the treadmill.
- Are you a self-published/Indie author? Yes, actually a hybrid.
- If you’re a self-published/Indie author what made you go that route instead of the traditional publishing route? Some of my stories were more suited for the indie market.
- Have you ever read a book more than once? And if so what was it? Oh my, YES!!! Dick Francis’ Come to Grief, Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca, and Jude Devereaux’s Night in Shining Armor. I reread other authors on occasion, but those three are the prime ones.
- What is your opinion of novellas? Excellent. I prefer to write short. I’ve sold a lot of short stories.
- Have you ever read a book just based on its cover? Mmmm. I can’t remember.
- What is your favorite film based on a book? Rebecca.
- What is your favorite book genre at the moment? I love mystery, historical and contemporary romance. I flip-flop all over the place.
- What book are you reading at the moment? And in what format? Little Women, for book club, in e-book format.
- What’s the best advice that you have been given when it comes to writing? Write Tight.
- Do you have any hobbies that aren’t related to reading & writing? I love to needlepoint, embroidery, yoga, Jazzercise, and play mahjong.

“Holiday Handbag Extravaganza” by Vicki Batman Excerpt:
What a mess.
The bell sitting on the counter above my head ding-ding-dinged in an irritating way. I huffed. Really?
Then I heard, “Hey,” —two dings— “I need help. Anybody working today?”
Despite the din assaulting my ears, I didn’t answer, and not because I was mean. Because I was a woman on a mission. It was imperative I retrieve the hundred-dollar bill that had vanished when The Copper Teapot’s front door had erupted wide with a wintry gust. All kinds of stuff had gone flying like price tags, papers, and hard-earned moola. In today’s sucky economy, every smidgen of revenue mattered.
Obviously, this guy couldn’t see me crouched down on the floor. His toe tapping and bell ringing conveyed his impatience. Sticking the ruler in the gap between the floor and the showcase, I bit my lip and concentrated, waving the tool back and forth so I could snag the elusive dinero. Another three-note ding sounded, and I rolled my eyes before singsonging, “Just a…minute, please.”
Fingers drummed above my head. I shrugged my shoulders, thinking, rats. Every customer is important. Guess I should be a responsible business owner and do the right thing. “Be right with you.”
“Okay, but hurry.”
“Almost…there…Got it!” I jumped to my feet and dangled the money in his face. “Pay day.”
I finished my jig to check out the customer only to find —Oh By Golly— Jack, as in the Jack Treadaway, the hunky hunk from Sommerville High School days. I couldn’t believe this man graced my shop.
Why was he here?

I love this interview Vicki, and the excerpt is even better. I can just see her crouched on the floor, trying to retrieve a hundred dollar bill and standing up to see her old high school flame. Too funny.
