Tris Prior develops from an uncertain girl into someone willing to challenge the identities society assigns to her. Her courage grows through fear rather than replacing it, making her progression satisfying. Four is appealing because he combines strength with emotional restraint and vulnerability. The faction system is fascinating even when its logic is imperfect. Fast pacing, training sequences, romance, and political conspiracy make the novel highly entertaining.
