Luce arrives at Sword & Cross carrying guilt, confusion, and questions about a tragedy she cannot fully remember. Her development is gradual because much of the novel focuses on uncovering Daniel’s identity and their shared history. The gothic setting and reincarnation-based romance are compelling, though the plot occasionally withholds information for too long. Readers who enjoy tragic love stories and brooding supernatural mysteries will find plenty to appreciate.
