Katniss Everdeen is practical, emotionally guarded, and driven by survival rather than a desire to become heroic. Her devotion to Prim and complicated partnership with Peeta reveal her compassion gradually. The Games create immediate suspense, but the novel’s deeper strength lies in its examination of propaganda, inequality, and public entertainment. The pacing is excellent, and nearly every action carries emotional or political consequences.
