Bella Swan’s reserved personality makes her easy for many readers to identify with, although her emotional dependence on Edward can sometimes overshadow her individual development. The forbidden romance and mysterious atmosphere create an undeniably addictive story, even when the plot moves slowly. Whatever readers think of the relationship, the novel’s ability to build tension and inspire an entire generation of paranormal fiction is difficult to dismiss.
