No one really prepares you for how quiet the house becomes when your children grow up.
For years, every schedule revolved around school events, sports practices, family dinners, and the constant rhythm of raising a family. Then one day, those routines change.
People often say this season gives parents more time for themselves, and that’s true.
What they don’t always mention is that it is scary, sad, and emotionally painful. Plus, it takes time to rediscover who you are outside of being needed every hour of every day.
For me, I’m trying to get back to my writing. I want to make writing part of that rediscovery.
The stories have always been there, nagging at my brain, but I haven’t always had the time to give to them. Maybe they were patiently waiting, maybe they took a hiatus from time to time. Now I’m hoping they will fill the quiet moments with imagination, purpose, and hope (instead of tears) for whatever chapter comes next.
Hoping the end of one season becomes the beginning of another.
