Today I am writing in the voice of Stella, a character in a series I’m currently writing.
Today’s writing prompt:
Write about a time everything changed in the blink of an eye!
It was back when I still lived with my mom… One of the last times I ever saw her.
We were going to the hospital; I was scheduled for some tests because I got headaches, all the time.
I never made it into the exam room. I never made it past the lobby.
As we were walking up to the hospital entrance, I saw a woman laying on the ground behind the dumpster. She looked cold… tired… gone.
My mom rushed me away from her. I wasn’t sure what she was so afraid of, not at the time. When they finally wheeled her into the lobby, I could see it—the blood. It was dripping down her arm and onto the floor. I reached out, barely touching her hand as they passed by us. That was when everything changed.
The room started to spin and my headache was instantly gone. I could see, clearer than I had ever seen before, but it wasn’t the hospital lobby I was seeing. I was surrounded by trees and I could hear screaming coming from somewhere behind me. When I turned around, I saw him!

Today I am writing in the voice of Andrew, a character in my upcoming novel, Fleeting Shadows.
My life changed in the blink of an eye the night Elyse was kidnapped. Fiona and I were peacefully asleep in our room. Five-year-old Elyse’s room was just across the hall from ours. It didn’t have a balcony, it didn’t have windows, there was only one way in and out, the main door. There were always two guards posted outside of it, our best guards. Guards who wouldn’t leave their post for anything, except for someone they trusted telling them to. That summer night, Jess had stayed up late working on some new strategy for us to try in our next battle, so Fiona and I thought nothing of it when we heard her walk by our room. When we heard Elyse’s screams, the two of us rushed into the hall. To our horror, Elyse and Jess had already disappeared. The guards who were supposed to be watching Elyse’s room were nowhere to be seen, and the door was left open. We went in, hoping to find some trace of evidence that suggested where Elyse had been taken and why someone so close to us had betrayed us. Nothing in her room had been touched except her bed, that she –and her favorite stuffed animal– were missing from. Since that night, Fiona and I haven’t stopped searching. Elyse found us, so that’s sorted, but Jess still has the wrath of the Flame royals at her heels. She better keep running.
