Week 9 – #WritingWednesday Challenge

Today is the Ninth edition of #WritingWednesday!!!

Writing Wednesday 3

Remember, #WritingWednesday is an EASY, STRESS-FREE, weekly writing challenge.

• Read the writing prompt below,
• Spend 5 minutes writing (in your own voice or the voice of a character you’re writing) whatever comes to mind,
• DON’T EDIT what you write! IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE PERFECT!

The goal is 5 minutes of creativity.

Today I am writing in the voice of Dean, one of the characters in my upcoming novel The Beast Within (This is not a selection from the novel, but part of my character development journal.)

Today’s writing prompt:

What do you look forward to every week?

What do I look forward to every week? I don’t know. A drink? Dude, I drink, so what. My job is stressful and life sometimes sucks. So, I get drunk and I get stupid, but it’s all in good fun. Honestly, it isn’t the feeling of being drunk that I look forward to, it’s the friendships I’ve developed over beers. The camaraderie. I don’t even always get drunk. I can control it. It doesn’t affect my life. It doesn’t affect my job. Ok, well, maybe. Maybe it’s effected my job, a little. I mean, sure, I’ve shown up late a few times because I’ve had one to many the night before. I’ve maybe called in sick a handful of times because of a hangover, but who hasn’t? I’m not an alcoholic.

  1. Today I am writing in the voice of Philip, a character in my upcoming short story, Fleeting Shadows.

If you were to ask me what I look forward to every week, I don’t know if I’d have answer for you. The only thing in my life that brings me the slightest sliver of happiness is Rylee and she is by my side every minute of every day. I suppose what I look forward to the most are Saturday nights. I take off early on Fridays, sleep late on Saturdays, and spend my evening doing things a normal 19 year old would do. Rylee and I play board games, we we go see plays, we read together, sometimes we spar. I think I love Saturday nights so much because it’s the only night that I sleep easily. With a relaxed day, and Rylee by my side, I don’t have strange, semi-prophetic dreams. I don’t thrash as I wake up from nightmares about the death of my family members. Everything falls away those precious nights when I don’t have responsibilities. Those nights are so wonderful because I can pretend I don’t live in a world that forced me to grow up far too fast.

  2. Payday was every Thursday, well it was Thursday in my Galaxy anyway, it was Friday where the Shatterglades were. The weekly pay of credits in my bank account was amazing, every week there were thousands pouring in from every employer I had. After all, with seven jobs across the seven galaxies, you have to have thousands pouring in to cover the expenses and luxuries of being able to travel the distance.
Alas, the credits never stuck for long, fuel was very expensive. But I can always look for the next payment.

  3. Everyday when I wake up I looked forward to one thing. Going back to bed. After the stress of a long day at work, saving lives, all a girl needs is a comfy bed, big blankets, and fluffy pillows. Nothing feels better than laying back and relaxing. Cuddling up with the one you love and forgetting about your daily responsibilities. I look forward to that deep sleep. The sleep that places you into a far off world, where your deepest thoughts and desire can be lived out. Sleep is a sacred, and safe place. Where me and Adam can be together, without a curse. Where we can be happy, and unafraid. I look forward to dreams.

  4. This week I’m definitely looking forward to seeing Rose. It’s been a while. Too long in fact.
I also get to hang out in a private cabin in the woods. (Cue the ax-murderers)
I guess what I miss most about Rose is the ease with which we hang out. I don’t have to try
to be anyone else. She actually likes me. I’m funnier around her. I feel smarter. Actually,
I think she makes me feel smarter and funnier. We eat good food and drink yummy wine.
I’ve been saving all my tips for this weekend. I had to borrow a few bucks from Lucas.
He says I don’t have to pay him back but I always do. Although, I have been finding random twenty
dollar bills in my coat pocket. Damn it! He’s sneaky. And cute. So cute. I wish he was little sometimes so I could put him in my pocket. Okay. That’s a little weird. I played with dolls a lot when I was a kid. I’d sneak them into the church, school, the market, anywhere I could. One time, at a gas station I was playing in a vending machine and my arm got stuck when I dropped my barbie inside. Three people tried to pull me out. I was screaming and screaming. Then my dad came over. Looked in the window and said, “Let go of the doll!” I did and I was free. But, I forgot the doll and we drove away. That still makes me sad to think about leaving her. She was a good friend. I never want that to happen again.
