From the Author:

How many diet plans have you started, only to bail after a few weeks? How many times have you chosen the couch over the gym? Why do we self-sabotage when we know what we want to change? Most of us have the health and fitness knowledge we need to succeed but lack the tools for the mindset shift needed to effect real change.

This journal provides practical nutrition, fitness, and self-care tips for better wellness, and daily writing prompts to help you become more aware of the thoughts and feelings affecting your mindset. Because awareness is the key to changing your mindset and changing your body.

My Review

as found on Amazon.com
Circumstances -> Thoughts -> Feelings -> Actions -> Results This is the heart of why we do what we do.

Sounds easy, right? WRONG! Just making excuses for why we overeat or fail to exercise doesn’t make them the right reasons. Finding the true causes for our self-sabotage can help us stop those self-sabotaging behaviors. Amy Latta has taken the very simple concept of journaling, which is all to often overcomplicated by others, and kept it simple. This easy to read, one page a day journal helps keep you motivated to eat healthier and get in your daily exercise all while asking thought-provoking questions, helping you get to the bottom of why you’re not doing those things naturally anyway. The only negative thing I can say about this book is that I wish it was longer. Thirty days of motivation is great, but sometimes it takes longer for change to be effective and for it to become routine in our daily lives. I think a sixty or ninety-day journal would have been even better.

Author Interview: Karina Kantas

Pre Order

I’m so excited and very lucky to have Karina Kantas, author of Illusional Reality an Adult Romantic Fantasy, join me on my blog today.

Author

Hi Karina, thank you for agreeing to be my guest.

If you could pick any actor/actress to play your lead characters, who would you pick and why?

Well I wrote Illusional Reality many years ago. So the actors I picked for the film (as every author does) Thya was going to be played by Cameron Diaz, Alkazar by Ralph Fines Darthorn by Antonio Banderas and Kovon was Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

Great cast! I would totally go see a movie starring Cameron Diaz, Ralph Fines, and Antonio Banderas!!!

Tell us a little about your lead characters and why you think your readers will fall in love with them.

Thya is a strong, powerful Tsinian but she’s not afraid to show her emotions. I think when the reader put themselves in her shoes, they will relate and understand why she acts like she does.

Alkazar is the tutor of the arts. It is his job to train the young Tsinians how to use their gifts and how to reel them in. As when they start using their power, it’s strong and uncontrollable. Alkazar had a dark secret which he carries around with him, like a ball and chain. The reader will understand Alkazar and feel compassion for him.

When I asked Karina where she finds her inspiration, I was sad to learn that she no longer writes. However, I did learn this about where she finds her inspiration:

I find inspiration from author S.E.Hinton and the rock band Iron Maiden.

Book Blurb:

Nobody expects to stare death in the face only to find out your entire life is a lie.
Rescued by Salco, marketing executive Becky finds herself in an unknown magical world filled with happy people that try to forget their land is on the brink of destruction.
Becky will soon learn none of this was an accident, and the council of Tsinia are certain her union with Darthorn’s son, Kovon, will create peace. And although her future has been planned out, she gives her heart to another.

“llusional Reality was definitely one huge ride. The story is very unique, you won’t find any stereotypical fantasy ploys in this novel! Karina Kantas has managed to do the almost impossible by weaving a thrilling story with romantic twists that will have you turning pages all night, and most probably give you quite a large book hangover.
S.H

Illusional Reality is filled with intrigue, deception, and danger. The story holds your attention as the events play out. I identified with the characters, loving the facets of their personalities. Well done. I loved the book. B.C

When your only choices are vampirism, lycanthropy, breeder, blood donor, or banishment to the Wastelands, what choice do you really have?

Set in a futuristic dystopian where society is governed by a council of vampires and lycanthropes, selection students are sheltered and raised in a deceptively utopian world. Strict rules are imposed to control population growth, education, and even personal interactions with other members of the Sector, all in the name of safety.

When ‘A’ comes of age she, like all youth throughout Sector C, and her selection classmates aren’t sent out into the world to find jobs, make money and lead happy carefree lives. They are forced to endure the rigorous physical and mental testing of Selection Week before choosing their destiny or being forced into a fate far worse. Those that make it out alive are announced as sector residence, given a position within the society, and allotted all the privileges of their chosen “culture.” However, when your only choices are vampirism, lycanthropy, breeder, blood donor, or banishment to the Wastelands, what choice do you really have?

Suspenseful, intense, passionate, and awash in paranormal delights, Sector C captures the enchantment and mysteries.

2015 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 3,300 times in 2015. If it were a cable car, it would take about 55 trips to carry that many people.

10 New Habits Writers Need to Cultivate in the New Year

OK, so I love going onto the Infinity Publishing blog to find great author tips and advice. Recently I stumbled across an article called ‘To New Habits Writers Need to Cultivate in the New Year’ and it was awesome!

The main focus of the article is to talk about the fact that habits, for authors, can be good. Of course, because we are getting so close to the start of 2016, the introduction focuses on how New Years resolutions typically focus on getting rid of bad habits, but then it explains how HABITS CAN BE PRODUCTIVE!!!

“The key is to develop the right habits and turn them into a normal part of your day.”

Want to know what the 10 habits that every writer needs to cultivate are?

  1. Writing on schedule
  2. Communicate with other authors
  3. Continuing education
  4. Take scheduled days off
  5. Start people watching
  6. Start outlining
  7. Keep your website updated
  8. Create rituals for celebration
  9. Get up for 5 minutes every hour you work
  10. Get dressed for work

Anyone who knows me or reads my blog can tell you what two of these habits I have the most problem with.

#6 – Outlining

It isn’t that I don’t like knowing where my story is going, it’s that I love letting my characters guide me. I love sitting at the computer, not sure what will happen, and then just following the story like I’m watching a movie unfold in front of me.

#7 – Keeping my website (blog) updated

No, I don’t blog as often as I should and I definitely don’t do once a week like the article suggests. I go through spurts where I blog a lot and then spurts where I have to step away for a while. When I’m really focused on my books, I find that I blog less. I’d rather put that writing time into the book then into finding something interesting to say. Is that bad? Probably, but I can say I will try to be better (I’ve said it before) and it works for a few weeks maybe a couple of months and then… back to the same old routine.

Taking a Break!

Yup, once again I am taking a break to focus on my writing. It has been way to long since I put pen to paper and sat down in a quiet room to write. Or at least it had been way to long until this morning.

writing-a-book

I felt a surge of creativity this morning and plucked away at the keys and typed up chapter one of my next book, The Tracker (working title).

So for now… for a while… I am going to say goodbye to the blog and focus on writing. I will still put out my quarterly YA newsletter. So, if you haven’t subscribed yet, make sure you do. I promise to keep you updated on the new book there.

October 2015 in Review

I have been a BAD LITTLE BLOGGER!

October came and went and we are not half way through November and I’m not really sure I’ve touched my blog. The time has just flown by and I have NOT been productive at all!!! At least not in my writing efforts. Granted I did release my latest novel on October 31st, but I have yet to start writing my next book. 😦

I guess it is time to admit my failure… So, without further ado, let us take a look at the raw data for October.

WRITING

  • Blog Posts – 4 (WHAT?!?! That is so sad… and yet, it is the 15th of November and I am posting my first post of the month. I have a feeling November will be even worse.)
  • Fiction Writing – NOTHING!!! I didn’t type a single word in October. However, I do have a reason. I am working with a local elementary school to help the 2nd graders write short stories. I’m going to be publishing a compilation of the 2nd-grade stories in a book sometime in December. So, my 2015 4th quarter is dedicated to the 100+ students and their wonderful imaginations. Their stories don’t always make sense, they don’t have clear plot lines, and they often have very random structure, but they are amazing too. I feel truly inspired by their creativity and their desire to write. Although I am editing the stories, just a little, I will not be changing their voice, their structure, or their plot lines. I want the kids to look back, years from now, and see how their minds worked at the age of 7 and 8. I plan to make the soft-cover book available on Amazon, so that each of them can take pride in their story and be proud of themselves for what they accomplished. No, its not a book for everyone, but it would make a wonderful gift for a young child who has aspirations of one day becoming an author. ‘Adventures at School ~ Stories by Kids for Kids’ Look for it on Amazon.com later this year!

Author Event To Do List

Basic RGB

I’m a list girl.

I think I’ve said it before, but now I can really confirm it. I participated in my first Con as an author with a table and everything, and I learned so much!

NerdCon 2015 - Copy

So, I’m here to give you my best ‘To Do List’ for when you are attending a convention as an author.

Ready?

Lets get started.

  1. Bring two tablecloths – one to be used as a tablecloth and one to be used at the end of each day to cover your display. Bringing an extra, just in case something goes wrong, isn’t a bad idea.
  2. Bring water – You’ll be talking with lots of people and dry mouth is never fun when you are trying to make a good first impression.
  3. Bring CANDY – Have a bowl of candy sitting on your table for people to take from. No, they aren’t going to buy it from you but it will draw them closer to your table so you can strike up a conversation.
  4. Have the book blurb printed and sitting in front of your book display – this allows people to read the book description without having to pick up your book (causing possible damage to the cover). This also is great for introverts who don’t really want to talk to you, but they can still learn about your books and see if they are interested.
  5. Take photos – This is something I really failed at. I took a few photos but failed to take enough to really document and remember the event. NerdCon 2015 - SpyChic007
  6. Plan a GIVEAWAY – have a sign-up so people can join your mailing list and then do a drawing for FREE STUFF! I gave away two gift bags full of fun stuff, a copy of one of my books, jar of candy, bookmarks, book cover magnets, notebooks, travel mug, fun vampire cup, and more. Think of a giveaway that goes along with the theme of your book(s) and make it fun.
  7. Guest Book – Sit a guest book out for people to sign and write in. While you sign their book you can ask them to sign your guest book. It’s a fun and easy way to look back on the event with fond memories. I am turning mine into a scrapbook and including photos and event materials.
  8. Decorate your Table – If it isn’t eye-catching people won’t approach you, but don’t over do it. Make sure there is just enough to bring people in but not so much that they feel overwhelmed. NerdCon 2015
  9. Freshen Up – Don’t be afraid to step away now and then to freshen up your makeup and/or hair and to stretch your legs. You’d be surprised what a little freshening up will do for your photos and what a stretch will do for your attitude.

Well, that is my advice. If you have advice to share please do so in the comments below. I know I would love to hear from anyone else who has participated in a Con at a vendor and/or author, and I’m sure my readers would too.

Book Release: SECTOR C ~ The Hunted by Nina Soden

I am so thankful for the support of the indie author community.

Nicholas C. Rossis's avatarNicholas C. Rossis

You may remember Nina Soden from my author feature a year ago. Nina is an indie-author who specializes in supernatural fiction. She currently has three books in the Blood Angel Series; Awaken, Beginnings, and Revenge, available for purchase.

She’s now releasing SECTOR C ~ The Hunted, the second book in her SECTOR C series.

What is SECTOR C ~ The Hunted about?

From the blog of Nicholas C. Rossis, author of science fiction, the Pearseus epic fantasy series and children's booksIn the future, most of the world is governed by a council of vampires and lycanthropes. Sector residents are offered the freedom to live as they desire provided they stay and abide by the laws handed down.

After being jolted awake by the blaring screech of the sector alarm, Zelina is dragged from her bed, gagged, and tied to a chair. Confronted with the brutal murder of one of her former classmates, she realizes that all eyes are on her as the primary suspect. Whether she was involved…
