Behind Locked Doors – Eternity…

At the youthful age of 15 she was already a lady in the eyes of society. When her grandparents made the decision to move her to the new world she was frightened yet excited by this new adventure. The Titanic was a grand ship more beautiful than anything she had ever seen both inside and out. The moment she stepped aboard her life was changed forever.

Her heart skipped a beat as his cold hand gently brushed across hers and his piercing eyes seemed to reach into her soul stealing her love forever. He appeared to be her age, but something in his eyes gave away a wisdom far beyond her years. They were inseparable from the start. To her it felt like he was the piece of her heart she had always been missing.

As fear struck the hearts of everyone around them and the ship began to sink Eric offered her life after death. With just one kiss they would be together for all eternity. In her gutt she knew it was more than that, and still she didn’t care. Like a dagger his teeth slid into her throat, and she was out. She woke up laying in his arms, surrounded by nothing but sand and ocean.

Eternity was going to be a very long time…

Bad news?

Is it bad when your editor pushes back your deadline? She was going to get her edits to me the first weekend of August but pushed it back to the first weekend of September! I hope it’s not that she hates it but how can I be sure?

Okay… I’ll stop freeting!

I’m at the beach with my amazing husband Eric, and am not going to worry about what may or may not need to be changed in the book! I plan to edit, rewrite, and edit some more when I get back home!

I’m going to just love my vacation now!

Behind Locked Doors – Revenge!

The night was all around him as slowly he walked the path back to his house. The wind moved the trees. And the fallen branches cracked beneath his feet. In the distance he could hear the cries of a howling wolf. Cold and nervous he pulled his coat tight around his body. Focusing on the path ahead of him he didn’t think about what might live in the woods.

All of a sudden he stopped dead in his tracks… not breathing… not moving… trying not to make a sound. He focused hard on what he saw but couldn’t believe. A young girl bent over an animal… No, not an animal… A man. When she looked up he saw the blood around her mouth and the glow of her piercing purple eyes.

In seconds the fear overcame him. He could not scream… He could not run… He was as helpless as the limp body on the ground at her feet. Moments later she was on him. With a deep breath in and out she plunged her teeth deep into the side of his neck. His blood was sweet and drew her in. She drank for hours as his energy drifted away. She gets what she wants… And she wants revenge!

Patiently Waiting

Its Sunday now, August 7th. I sent my manuscript off to my editor on July 15th with the knowledge that she would send it back with editor’s notes by Saturday August 6th.

The fact that it hasn’t yet arrived in my email box feels like bad news, but I’m sure it doesn’t mean anything. We all have deadlines, other commitments, distractions, etc. I’m sure that she has dug in and is on her way to completion. I don’t want to be the writer that hounds her, because I think that good work takes time, and I want to know that I am getting everything she has to offer me. And yet, I still feel this appending doom headed my way when I do see her email pup up.

So, to distract me until that day happens… I shall write.

I have finished the rewrites to book two, and plan to send it off to said editor as soon as book one is back in my hands. Until then I am picking up book three again, and starting off where I left off… Chapter Eleven! That’s right, I set it down ten chapters in and havent touched it since. It has been about four or five weeks… I hate when I have to stop for such a long time. But, I did good work on book one and two during those weeks.

Back to book three… Today is rewrites on chapters one through ten… Okay, I do have a husband, two kids, and a full-time job. Rewrites will take me a couple of days. Then, later this week I will continue where I left off with chapter eleven! I am super excited where this book is headed, and can’t wait to have someone’s feed back. Book one, got great feedback from close friends and family… Book two, is still being read by a number of people, but my sister (and lawyer) finished it and says its amazing… Book three, is so far my favorite of the series… Then again, I love them all, but I’m the author, lol.

Okay, off to work I go.

Behind Locked Doors – A World Of His Own!

He was alone in the room surrounded by the world… Paintings of his travels over the last one hundred and ninety-three years covered the walls. Some were massive in size others so small they could fit in the palm of your hand. He sat there silent… focused… determined.

Windows all around the room were black with the night sky. A distant moon pours light into the window as below on the street a loud crash and breaking glass is heard. He doesn’t move. The window to his back explodes in as four men in black burst through. He sits eyes closed without a hint of concern.

In moments they are upon him. Then it happens… without warning… his eyes open… burning red. With the strength of twenty, he flings the first attacker off with just a twist of his wrist. The second he throws back out the window and onto the street below.

The third faces him eye to eye before… without warning… he pulls him in and drains him with a quick bite of his neck. The fourth turns and runs before his friend even hits the floor. He sits back down in the middle of the destruction. Not winded… Not tired… Not a care in the world. He sits alone in the room surrounded by his world…

Goal Update…

Well, I didn’t quiet get through ten chapters over the weekend like I had hoped. However, I did get through nine, so not bad. (Giving myself a small pat on the back!) This morning I finished chapter ten (bigger pat on the back!!). It was only two days behind schedule, and since I hardly ever have time during the week to write… Success!

I plan to get through another chapter or two this evening, putting me well into my goal of finishing by the end of this weekend, and then I can move on to book three. Well, move on to book three, while sitting around patiently and eagerly awaiting my editor notes on book one that should be in my email by the weekend of August 5th! No one ever told me how stressful waiting could be.

Okay… so, maybe patient isn’t the best way to describe it. Its more like biting my finger nails, sitting on the edge of my seat, and praying that she at least likes it. I know I have to expect lots of edits… all the editors I have spoken to say that’s just the way it goes. Writers have told me that they receive pages and pages of editor notes. I have received good advice, “Take your editor notes as constructive criticism.” Easier said than done I’m sure, but that is just what I am going to do. I figure the more notes, the more opportunity to improve what I’ve written. At least it can’t hurt right?

Well, it’s that time… time to write!

Behind Locked Doors – Lying in wait!

They found her there, lying in the large dark oak bed, black silk sheets flowing around her, her golden curls wet with passionate sweat, not a piece of clothing covering an inch of her milky smooth skin. She looked to be dead, no pulse, cold flesh, and not a breath to escape her open lips.

There was talk of bite marks, drained blood, tenth girl this week… The conversation went on. Little did they know this beauty was like no other. For she was merely lying in wait, under a spell, in a seductive trance, waiting for the right moment to…

For she gains her powers from those she feeds on, and giving them her blood gives her more pleasure than pain you see. Once she has been bitten she’s ready to fight, and at the right moment she leaps from the bed and in seconds is upon them. Four men down with just a turn of their necks on the last one she’ll feed for his bloods is clearly the most intoxicating. She could smell it the second he stepped into the room.

Warm and fresh she takes it all in, drops his lifeless body to the ground and turns to leave. As she walks out the door she grabs her long silk robe, and wrapping it around her body… it clings to her curves as she disappears into the night.

Two weeks and counting…

I have a two-week deadline looming overhead. By Saturday August 6th, I am to have book 2 to my editor, and although it is already written I have not yet gone back through it to do a final edit on my own, and the people I have reading it have not yet gotten back to me! AHHHHHH

I’m not dragging me feet, really I’m not. It’s just that with two kids, a husband, a full-time job, a part-time job, and a house to clean there really isn’t a whole lot of time on my plate to write. I try to squeeze in time whenever I can… kids weekend nap time (right now!!!), after the kids go to bed at night (when nothing good is on tv…), etc. But, still not a lot of time to devote just to my writing.

I am making myself a promise, here and now! I will pick up book two this weekend, and get through chapters one through ten! Okay, maybe that is a little ambitious considering when I do final edits I tend to rewrite large portions, insert completely new chapters, and/or delete large portions… Okay, I’m still going to aim for chapters one through ten, but I am not going to be too hard on myself if its more like one through five. LOL

Okay, today is almost over, with the babysitter soon to arrive, so… I better be off to work. Wish me luck and think of me often.

Behind Locked Doors – The Dancing Nymph

As a full moon shone bright, high in the midnight black sky painted with stars, she dances underneath the branches of an old oat tree. The wind blowing her fire-red hair wildly through the air, and her skin glistening as the stars shine down. Softly, sweetly raindrops began to fall, and gently land around her. Though never a drop on her skin as she breezes through the field in between drop after drop.

Suddenly, there in the distance, she sees him. Their eyes connect and moments later they’re standing side by side, hand in hand, lips to lips, and heart to heart! A connection like nothing she had ever known. More powerful than the call of the earth, more passionate than the song of the angels above, more violent than the rushing rapids. Her heart pounded in her chest, and he could smell the sweet honey of life flowing through her veins.

Those few seconds between life and death before she so willing gave in to his desires were more than she could have ever hoped for, ever dreamed of. Even as she lay on the forest floor, drained of all life and blood, a soft smile still remained on her once radiant face.

Dug In…

So… Following the advice of a good friend, I dug deeper! I actually spent the last eight days reading, reviewing, and editing my manuscript. My goal wasn’t to add fluff just to make it longer, but instead to add only content that would benefit and add to the story line. I think I succeeded, but only time will tell.

After completing the first version it went through multiple levels of editing; the first being myself reading and editing it many MANY times, the second being my close (in proximity) friends, the third being my distant (again proximity) relatives, and then finally my good friend out in California who finally gave me advise I could use. That advise was what lead me to ‘Dig Deeper’. Now that the digging is done, I have finally sent my manuscript off to my editor.

Now I sit, dug in, and wait… and wait… and wait!

I would love to say I’m not nervous, and party of me isn’t, but the other part… well it is. Don’t get me wrong, I believe that a professional editor is a MUST, and I truly believe that I have picked the right one for my project. I’m excited and scared, but I can take criticism as long as it’s constructive, as I’m sure it will be. Therefore I am eagerly awaiting her edits, thoughts, and recommendations, as I push forward and ‘digging deeper’ into manuscript number two!

Now I’m off to the trenches to write…
